GunSense: Songs & Strategies For Action - 9pm
21A Clinton Street
New York, NY 10002
Price: 20.00

A musical event that uses the arts to push for social change. With Janie Barnett, Thomas Boyd, David S. Goldman, Jim Harrison, Judy Kass, Neil Okeson, Glenn Roethel, Teri Scheinzeit, Sloan Wainwright and Ina May Wool

Our songs are contemporary, the messages are evocative and provocative and we invite our audiences to join in from time to time. “GunSense” is also an organizing event. We incorporate presentations by public officials and policymakers, community leaders and on-the-ground activists.  Our performance is a rallying cry, a signal for healing and an affirmation of the catalytic power of the arts and of an idea whose time has clearly come.

Doors at 9:00pm, Show at 9:30pm
Tickets: $20

Janie Barnett’s music features rootsinstruments, powerful storytelling and the social passions of one who grew up in the backyard of Washington D.C. She embraces pop, blues, rock and jazz traditions. Janie has sung backup for Linda Ronstadt, Celine Dion, and Rickie Lee Jones. She is Assistant Professor at Berklee College of Music. “You See This River,” her most recent CD, has received accolades including several votes as one of 2017’s top albums of the year.

Thomas Boyd is a writer, producer, storyteller and musician. His career includes U.S. Senate staff experience, political campaigns, two CDs of original music and a commitment to engaging audiences on issues that matter. His acclaimed house concert series “Music Over Manhattan” raised voices and support for local, national and global causes and concerns.

David S. Goldman is a world-traveled singer/songwriter who performs Blues, Folk Rock, Pop/Jazz and World. His CDs have received extensive national airplay. He has opened for Kenny Loggins at Tarrytown Music Hall, Andy Statman at Irvington Town Hall Theatre and performed an original work at Deepak Chopra’s latest CD and book release. He is currently working on his Indian memoir and, with producer-writer Charles R. Hale, their next multi-media show. His latest award-winning song, “Going To America” won the Gold Prize in the 2015 Folk-Rock/Americana category of the Mid-Atlantic Songwriting Contest.

Neil Okeson is singer-songwriter and composer whose compositions reflect his urban homestead and his rural upstate New York studio; songs that live in a real world – one full of wonder, love, and even some human sadness. Neil composes music for film as well as writing and performing what he calls “contemporary protest music.” He is a talented songwriter with rich melodies, smart lyrics and compelling vocals.

Glen Roethel is a NY based, California born, one-of-a-kind artist. He’s a gifted vocalist and dazzlingly acoustic guitarist. His rich baritone-tenor, effortless fretting, and vibrant personality light up stages. An award-winning songwriter, Glen has electrified juried showcases for Folk Alliance, Falcon Ridge Folk Fest and more. He sings anecdotes, tender love songs, memoirs and anthemic songs for unity and empowerment. Glen has released six original full-length CDs.

NYC based singer-songwriter, Teri Scheinzeit, lights up the room with her soulful strength and positive energy. Choosing Happy, her recent CD, addresses recuperation, celebrates our love for solitude and invites us to find positive ways to move through life. “Her melodies are lovely and mesmerizing and her voice glides on their surface like a world-class figure skater.” Teri performs at clubs, coffee-houses, hospitals, festivals and benefits. Her music publishing company, Papa Jules Music, is named after her father.

Singer-songwriter Sloan Wainwright is known for her melodious rich contralto creating a unique and soulful blend. “Warm and smoky and smooth, it makes her earthy, ominous lyrics seem all the more intense.” Her family tree (brother Loudon Wainwright, nephew Rufus Wainwright, nieces Martha Wainwright and Lucy Wainwright Roche) reads like a who’s who of contemporary music. Sloan has ten original CD releases. She continues to sing, perform live and teach at prestigious song camps.

Singer songwriter Ina May Wool, based in NYC, began singing and playing guitar with a country and blues band in her home state of MA, opening for Tom Rush, Maria Muldaur, Taj Mahal and Orleans. She now sings solo, has added mandolin to the mix, and writes everything from stomping rave-ups to reflective, poetic and wryly humorous songs. Ina May’s voice is amazing —gutsy and soulful. Her melodies are often haunting and always beautiful. “Her album, Crack it Open, feels like an embrace.”

REFUND POLICY: Tickets maybe be refunded up to 24 hours before the event. Within 24 hours we may take exchanges for other events at our discretion. No refunds after the event.

White Plains, New York 10607
(914) 592-7070
Price: $25; Students: $10

Woodlands Community Temple Coffeehouse is pleased to present “Songs of the American Spirit” featuring David S. Goldman.  David's music is an eclectic mix informed by his Jewish/Sicilian/ Albanian heritage and his travels to India, Mexico, Japan, France, Italy, Sicily, England, Spain, Portugal & Turkey. David grew up listening to classical, opera, international and American folk music.

The idea for “Songs Of The American Spirit” arose out the inspiration David felt when reading the inscriptions on the hallowed monuments and memorials in Washington, D.C.–– words about democracy, justice, freedom, independence and equality. His program will take the audience on a journey through various genres of original and traditional American songs—from Folk, Blues and Spirituals to the American Songbook, Country and Italian and Jewish immigrant songs––each representative of different aspects of our country’s historical struggles, triumphs and diversity.

David has opened for Kenny Loggins at Tarrytown Music Hall, for the Rippingtons at the Paramount Center for the Arts in Peekskill and has performed at The Living Room, Irvington Town Hall Theater, the Bitter End, and numerous other venues. He has released several albums, and most recently an award-winning single entitled "Going to America." David said "I wrote this song because I wanted to express a positive spirit in the face of all the challenges that America faces today. We are all going to America, trying to find America. We can only get there together..."

David will be joined by Ira Levin and Julia Bordenaro better known to contemporary folk audiences as The Levins.

“Few people on this earth were born to sing, but lucky for us, David Goldman is one of them.” ––Christine Lavin

Emceeing for Caleb Hawley and Sarah J - 7pm
35 Alexander St.
Yonkers, New York 10701
Price: 10

This will be a great show, spotlighting the showstopping talent of Caleb Hawley and powerful vocals of Sarah J. Caleb. I'll be doing a two-song miniset to open the show.

Version:1.0 StartHTML:0000000149 EndHTML:0000001785 StartFragment:0000000199 EndFragment:0000001751 StartSelection:0000000199 EndSelection:0000001751 Caleb Hawley received top honors in the prestigious New York Songwriters Circle Contest (2008 and 2009), the John Lennon Songwriting Contest (2009), the Telluride Festival (2010), the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival (2010), and Rocky Mountain Folks Fest (2011) for his songwriting, he also made it to the final fifty on the 2011 American Idol Season. He has shared the stage with Mark Cohn, Rusted Root, Dave Matthews Band, Shawn Mullins, and Edwin McCain.
“(Caleb) captivates audiences with soothing folk tunes in the same manner as James Taylor, and with the next breath blows them away with his powerhouse of soul, likened to that of Stevie Wonder. Audiences leave a Caleb Hawley show with a permanent grin, a heart full of laughter, and a tune to hum the whole way home.” NYC Art Scene
Review for his CD We All Got Problems: “If you were a fly on the wall listening in on your peers’ therapy sessions, this would probably be the soundtrack.”
Our opening act, Sarah J captivates listeners with her emotional delivery and strong stage presence. A versatile musician and prolific songwriter, she is heavily influenced by both her time spent studying opera in college and fronting a hard-rock band that toured the Southeast. She's now settling into her groove as a New York-based singer/songwriter, gigging heavily in support of her new album, "Happier," available at the merch table. "Haunting."–Billboard Magazine.

Robert Hill Band “makes us want to slam down some moonshine and start a ballroom blitz” GUITAR PLAYER MAG

Robert Hill grew up North Little Rock, Arkansas, and possesses a unique gumbo of musical styles: urban and deep Delta blues, bluegrass, oldtime country, zydeco, ragtime, cowpunk, gospel, even a polka or two in spots. When you mix it all together, they just call it Rock and Roll. Johnny Cash was born there – what else needs to be said?

“Flat out… you have to hear this great musician… I’m blown away”- Jorma Kaukonen Hot Tuna, Jefferson Airplane, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee

“As a blues guitar player, I am stunned and in awe of Toby Walker’s pickin’! Add to that his fine songs and singing and friendly presentation, and it’s obvious that Toby Walker is one of the most enjoyable artists in today’s Blues World.” – Steady Rollin’ Bob Margolin Guitarist for the late Muddy Waters

“A real killer with fantastic technique. He just knocks me out.”- John Hammond

Tribes Hill’s monthly Song Circle brings together top local songwriters and performers for a spontaneous, joyous, musical exploration of the human experience.  Urban H2O presents these rising Hudson Valley artists in an intimate and informal setting.

One out of every seven people you pass strolling down a busy sidewalk today, waiting beside you on the subway platform, or seated next to your child in the cafeteria at school is likely to be living in poverty. This is the highest poverty level recorded since the U.S. started keeping such statistics 50 years ago.
In 1971, John Lennon expressed his vision of hope, peace and a world free of poverty through his powerful song “Imagine”. This year, as we celebrate John’s 70th birthday, we continue to enjoy his lyrics that influence and inspire. On this special night, River Spirit Music teams up with IMAGINE THERE’S NO HUNGER, part of a global campaign to benefit WHY – a nonprofit organization that strives to fight against hunger and poverty around the world. 2010 marks the 35th year of WhyHunger, the non-profit organization founded by the late singer-songwriter Harry Chapin and radio talk show host and present Executive Director Bill Ayres. To date, its annual Hungerthon auction has raised over $11 million to help put a stop to hunger and poverty worldwide. For more info, go to www.whyhunger.org

75% of all of the proceeds from this special show will directly benefit WHY and its grassroots partners around the globe, that have developed ways to feed children worldwide who are victims of poverty and also teach them farming and entrepreneurial skills for the future. The remaining 25% of the proceeds will go to the HASTINGS YOUTH COUNCIL to help local families who have fallen through the safety net.

Peekskill, NY

Danielle Miraglia & David Goldman

With her powerful, whiskey-tinged, bluesy voice, Danielle Miraglia's classic rock verve, catchy melodies and eclectic array of song subjects ranging from deeply personal to socially relevant give her music an original twist that is all her own. A fresh sound along with a captivating stage presence is gaining Danielle fans all over the map.

"It's only a matter of time before the rest of the country takes notice." - Performing Songwriter

 "Inspirational!" - John Hammond

Where David Goldman’s Summer With Juliet was a smorgasbord of international and American musical idioms, Light In The Tunnel is more rooted in songs strongly influenced by Celtic, Gospel, Blues and Folk traditions; it is David’s deeply personal journey on the wings of a finely woven tapestry of voices and music.

“Few people on this earth were born to sing, but lucky for us, David Goldman is one of them.” -Christine Lavin
